Finding the Perfect Hip Hop Dance Teacher
When I opened my dance studio 6 years ago, one of the biggest problems I found early on was finding, and keeping, a good hip hop teacher. I taught a lot of the classes at our studio and felt comfortable teaching younger hip hop classes, but not for the older and more advanced dancers. I suppose I was a victim of my age; even though I was in my mid-twenties at the time, when I was younger, hip hop was just simply not offered at my dance studio. I didn’t feel like taking the drop in classes and conventions I had attended as an adult were enough. I knew if I taught hip hop it would probably look more like jazz. It was important to me, as well as to my co-owners, to provide actual hip hop classes, though. If I were going to call a class “hip hop”, I wanted to be able to deliver to my customers the class they had chosen.
I lucked out and found a great teacher who has been with us now for 4 years, but I know from talking to other dance studio owners they are not as lucky. That is why I am so proud to have started Dance Teacher Finder to help other dance studios find hip hop dance teachers.
