Overview

Purpose of NDI New Mexico Outreach Instructor Role:
The Outreach Dance Instructor is responsible for learning and delivering the NDI New Mexico curriculum and teaching methodology through our classes in the public schools, helping children and youth develop confidence and character through dance. Training takes place under the supervision of a master instructor in our award-winning curriculum and the core competencies of the NDI New Mexico pedagogy. Instructors are creative partners with a team of teaching artists and musicians to create choreography and lead public school students to success in their culminating performances. The Outreach Dance Instructor is responsible to their Program Artistic Director(s) for carrying out the mission and the policies of the organization.

The starting rate would be $20-30 per hour based on experience during the 6 to 12-month training period, and that rate would increase as more responsibility is taken on when the instructor becomes versed in NDI NM’s methodology.

Primary Responsibilities:

Teaching and Choreography:

Training period includes paid apprenticeship learning under the guidance of a master
teacher, and participating in training and enrichment workshops to learn the pedagogy and build teaching skills. Schedule can range from 3-12 hours/week
Prepares assignments and lesson plans for classes as directed by lead instructor
Works collaboratively with teaching and music team to create choreography for outreach programs

Production Support:

Works backstage in support of culminating performances for programs

General Artistic Duties:

Attends all enrichment workshops and staff meetings as needed
Follows NDI New Mexico program curriculum set by program director
Provides program director with required materials and information as needed
Subbing classes when available
Other duties as needed and mutually agreed upon

Working Conditions, Environment and Physical Requirements:

Requires weekend and evening hours
Requires extensive physical movement, dance, high energy, and stamina
In applicable programs (Outreach) performs functions in a variety of environments including: NDI New Mexico offices, schools, residency sites, and other locations
In applicable programs (Outreach) may require reimbursable in-state travel to NDI New Mexico locations, participating schools, residency sites, and community events

Job Specific Requirements:

Professional dance performance experience
College level education preferred
Minimum 1-2 years of experience in job-related duties
Flexibility in work schedule
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
