ROCKSTARS Artistic Director

Job duties

Run weekly rehearsals

Attend and run Rockstars Meetings

Write meeting agendas well in advance for proofreading in coordination with the Administrative Director and supervisor

Attend and run Rockstars Events

Negotiate communication/production of 1st tier events with families, institutions, Administrative Director and supervisor

 

Produce 3-4 choreographies each school year

Rehearse/set repertoire from the past year or guest choreographer (if applicable)

Choose costumes for supervisors’ approval and send links for purchase

Choose music for supervisors’ approval and send links for purchase

If music editing is needed communicate needs to supervisor and our sound editor via e-mail

 

Keep notes on students each week to justify awards at the end of the season

Write student evaluations in May with recommendations for the next school year

Communicate expectations, insist on dress code and teach our mission to dancers and parents

 

Teach dancers leadership skills in dance rehearsal, meetings and at events

·         Ability to solve problems – choreography, spacing, life in general

·         Personal organization and discipline – work independently

·         Advocate for themselves and others – public speaking, self-confidence

·         Behave with kindness and encouragement in the community

·         Initiative to present ideas and organize events / activities / donations

 

Motivate and inspire dancers to participate in all 1st tier activities – required activities

·         Winter Concert

·         Dance Scholarship Fundraiser

·         Spring Recital

·         National Night Out

·         The new season try-outs as alumni (when not returning in the next year) or active members

·         2-4 bonding events for company members and artistic director together

 

Advocate for our Performing Company Dancers by scouting extra 2nd tier activities – optional and encouraged

Discuss 2nd tier activity ideas with the supervisor and present them in meetings to the group when approved

Encourage and inspire dancers to participate in 2nd tier activities – expected and agreed on with a majority vote or appropriate for partial company attendance

Extra invitations to perform with other dance organizations

Attend one convention / competition – decided as a group each year if participants are interested that year and how many dances to perform at the event = $$$

Parades and summer festivals

Extra outreach to retirement facilities or other institutions

Auditions for summer intensives

ROCKSTARS philosophy
To be a ROCKSTAR is to be a leader. Students are given the opportunity to participate in this company because they’ve shown commitment as a dancer and athlete, and their willingness to grow as people, dancers and leaders. ROCKSTARS strive to learn and master new and challenging choreography each week and continually practice kindness and encouragement within the dance community.

Ages 10+ Level II Dancer or Higher
Choreographies and weekly rehearsals focus on Lyrical, Jazz & Contemporary styles with other dance & fitness forms added in to broaden performer's exposure and growth in dance.

To be eligible dancers must take one other dance class in Jazz, Lyrical or Ballet at level II or higher each week for technique and strength.

The City of Mountlake Terrace Recreation department is home to the Mountlake Terrace Dance Academy & Rockstars Performing Company. We provide 30+ dance classes a week to our community with 3 dedicated dance studios, sprung floors, mirrors etc. Genres include Creative Dance for ages 3.5 -5, pre-level dance classes for ages 5-7, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Irish Step for ages 6-19, and Lyrical & Hip Hop for ages 8 and up.

MLTDA Mission: Mountlake Terrace Dance Academy provides a structured approach to dance with emphasis on technique, creativity, and building self-esteem. We strive to bring dancers to their best movement and artistic potential while remaining open and inclusive.
