Do you love working with kids and want to make a difference in our community? Santa Barbara Dance Arts is hiring for 2023 SUMMER and 2023-2024 SEASON and beyond. We are seeking a positive and experienced person to teach at our Santa Barbara location and support our community partnership classes. SB Dance Arts has been serving families in Santa Barbara for over 25 years. We are seeking individuals with experience working with young children and are good with classroom management skills to serve the dynamic needs of children ages 12 mos-5 years old.  While Dance and  Early Childhood Education or teaching background is a plus, we are open to those with other movement and play-based experience.

This position is for a part-time position with the opportunity to grow into long term employment with our company. We offer PTO, simple IRA, continuing education credits, and discounts to lessons and master classes.

SUMMER Camps and Classes take place Monday – Thursday from 8:30am-4:30pm and Fridays from 9:00 am – noon pm. The preschool and youth camps are themed and vary week to week. Summer program is June 12th-Aug 5th 2023. Flexible scheduling allows staff to work when they are available and schedule is set on camp sign-ups, age and levels.

 

Job Duties:

Teachers will teach a variety of styles for  both performing and non-performing classes throughout the camp day.
Performing class instructors will prepare a short dance for a small in-studio weekly performance.
Attend summer staff meeting and adhere to schedules and policies.
FALL/SPRING CLASSES  take place Monday – Friday mornings and afternoons, and Saturdays mornings.

 

Job Duties:

Support gross motor skills through movement and play.  Classes with dancers under 24 months will include parent participation.
Teachers for our performing classes will prepare dancers for a successful in-studio December Showcase and large-scale May recital which includes finding appropriate music, choreographing the recital routine and attending all recital events.
Teachers are expected to be easy to work with, clearly communicate with our team and with parents, provide evaluations and feedback for students and office staff, and attend studio events and staff meetings 3x per year.
The ideal team member has the ability to teach from a curriculum and be able to manage and create your own progressive class plans. Candidates must have excellent organization and self-management, have creative and flexible teaching styles, and an enthusiastic, disciplined, and warm approach to students.
Fall/Spring Season is Aug 21, 2023 -May 31, 2024. Candidates must be able to commit to the entire season.
Compensation for Classroom Education $20-$45 DOE

Skills Needed:

2-3 years teaching experience
2 references
Punctuality and flexibility
Responsiveness to emails
Positive attitude, patience, and genuine love for teaching children with strong classroom management skills
Inclusive teaching skills- Our studio culture advocates creating an inclusive environment conducive to all types of learners
Degree in Dance (B.A or B.F.A) or professional experience is a bonus
