Studio Dance Teacher/Coordinator/Choreographer

Overview

McLaughlin Studios is an innovative arts education facility; utilizing current teaching strategies, a variety of performance opportunities, and most importantly, regular instruction provided by highly qualified teachers. Our priority is to support the needs and achievement of our diverse student population, offering flexibility and support in their education. Our teachers, therefore, need to share the studio’s mission and approach.

Teaching dance, could include but is not limited to Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, ballet 1-pointe, Lyrical 1-3, jazz 1-3, tap, hip hop lessons/classes to students ages 3-18 and varying levels of proficiency. Teaching in this studio requires a firm understanding of how best education practices can be applied to our innovative arts education facility. Teacher must have an openness to explore the ways they can help create new innovative programs and offerings to further enhance the studio arts education lessons and classes. In addition, as dance coordinator, the candidate must excel in organization, teamwork, computer skills, and customer service to create a vibrant, fun and educational learning opportunity to our students and families.

ob Duties

 Prepare lesson plans for all facets of program and teach students in small groups or individually.

 Access students and determine appropriate level of teaching.

 Advise and support student in choice of dance styles.

 Include parents in all aspects of program when appropriate.

 Track student progress and share with student and others as appropriate.

 Develop and reinforce rules of behavior.

 Support and follow employer mission and guidelines in handbook.

 Take roll and call parents if class members are missing, ill, or need assistance with help of office staff.

 plan and prepare lessons/classes in relation to individual and group students’ needs.

 Acquire appropriate teaching materials/resources.

 Teach dance theory and practical techniques to students.

 Prepare students for recitals and performance opportunities.

 Motivate students and encourage progress with monthly reports.

 Communicate with studio staff and parents.

 Communicate and manage dance staff with weekly or bi-weekly meetings.

 Create and maintain a network of contacts to ensure work continuity.

 Ensure up-to-date knowledge and awareness of studio and teacher requirements.

 Assess students’ abilities, providing feedback and writing reports.

 Help arrange and attend recitals/performances for students’ families and friends.

 Keep accurate time cards, class schedules, and student records.

 Advertise or publicize the studio. Includes sharing photos and videos to marketing team for social media outreach.

Because many people take dance classes as a hobby in their spare time, the job commonly requires working afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

Skills and Qualifications:

 Dance experience and training in Ballet necessary. Performance, teaching skills, a love for children, and enthusiasm a must.

 Leadership experience and mentorship skills preferred.

Qualifications:

 College diploma or equivalent training with previous experience preferred.

 A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit educational employment.

 Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.

 Ability to establish working relationships with coworkers and function as part of a cohesive team.

 Commitment to keep current with workplace innovations that enhance the programs and personal productivity.

 Successful completion of an accredited first aid course may be required.

 Working knowledge of dance and music techniques. Musical Theatre skills not required but a plus.

 Effectively uses active listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills.

 Interprets information accurately and initiates effective responses.

 Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.

 Values diversity. Skillfully manages individual, group, and organizational interactions.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 – $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
