Upper-Level Ballet & Pointe Instructor
$25-$28/hr DOE for 16-20hrs/week

Ketchikan Theatre Ballet (KTB) is seeking an instructor for our upper-level ballet (V-IX) and pointe
(pre/beginning, intermediate, and advanced) classes, consisting of children ages 10-18. Our school is
upbeat, energetic, and encouraging, with a great existing collaboration among the staff. We are looking to
add an instructor who excels at bringing the best out of their students in positive and uplifting ways.

KTB has been providing quality dance instruction in the community of Ketchikan for over 60 years. Dance
opportunities include ballet, tap, and jazz, for students ranging from infancy through adulthood. Our
mission is to foster each student’s creativity and talents while developing a strong sense of confidence

Must be able to relocate to Ketchikan, Alaska.

Schedule details:

● 16-20 hours of scheduled classes per week plus preparation; after school and on Saturdays
● Dance year is August-May
● Sundays off (except around performance time)
● Extended hours will be required at the KTB studio and/or at performance sites during rehearsals
and performances, and there may be a requirement to work on non-scheduled days.

QUALIFICATIONS
● 3+ years dance teaching experience required
● College Dance Degree, Professional Dance Experience and/or Dance Certifications recommended

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES
● Prepare lesson plans for and teach weekly ballet classes, and adhere to scheduled class times
● Run auditions, set cast, and produce The Nutcracker
● Choreograph ballet and pointe pieces for KTB’s annual productions
● Fulfill assigned duties associated with rehearsals and productions
● Collaborate with other Instructors on additional annual KTB productions
● Provide year-end dancer placement recommendations and evaluations
● Coordinate, plan, and participate in fundraising for KTB events
● Stay knowledgeable of studio policies/events and meet deadlines
● Attend regular staff meetings
● Engage in growth as a teacher

SKILLS
● Masterfully teach ballet and pointe while following a dance curriculum, and managing a classroom of students
● Choreograph unique, entertaining, and polished routines for annual performances
● Possess a knowledge of dance pedagogy, a knowledge of body systems and movement applications
● Work closely with the Board of Directors as a whole, and the Vice President as the manager of Human Resources
● Maintain a positive, friendly atmosphere between students, parents, staff, and community
● Have great work ethics, be self-motivated, and possess integrity and passion for dance
● Exhibit organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
● Able and willing to collaborate and work with peer instructors
● Versed in other disciplines is a bonus
