DANCE TEACHER – CARIBBEAN

Firebird Performing Arts, British Virgin Islands, seeks a passionate, kind, self-motivated Teacher for Sept 2023 to June 2024 classes, with the possibility to extend. The role requires  strong class management skills, an engaging teaching style and a willingness to support admin tasks. There is opportunity to choreograph for the adult company and in youth settings outside the studio. Solid experience in teaching and choreographing for children and teens is required.  Teacher qualifications are preferred, candidates with experiential background will be considered and supportive references are required in all cases.

Founded and directed by Sarah Penney, and guided by the mantra  “Kindness, Creativity, Collaboration”, Firebird aims to illustrate the power of performing arts in bringing individuals together, especially in a small-island community.  The broad demographic range of our islands is fully represented in our classes, and we host many scholarship students.

Firebird currently employs 2 multi-discipline, 1 gymnastics and 3 junior teachers, with an average student body of 100 students ages 3-15 years old, as well as workshop-style adult offerings that vary monthly. Class styles include creative movement, hip hop, ballet, gymnastics, tumbling, musical theater and jazz. Located on the island of Tortola, Firebird is also home to The Cada Players Drama Group.

Salary, work schedules and living expenses are open for discussion and development to tailor the overall Firebird experience to the individual applicant.  2023/24 classes will run Sept 11 to Dec 16 and Jan 8 to June 30, concluding with a staged Showcase.  Deadline for Dance Teacher applications is May 31, as a request for a BVI Work Permit must be submitted months in advance of September classes.
